Queensland’s run of fine weather means noted wet tracker Jungle Edge will miss the rest of the Brisbane winter and race in Melbourne or Sydney.
Trainer Mick Bell has pulled up stumps on a winter campaign after it became apparent the weather was going to remain generally fine for much of the next two months.
Brisbane had some rain on Saturday but Bell was not swayed to remain.
“We headed back to Sydney where he spent the week and then he is back at our stables (in Victoria) now ,’ Bell said.
“He will trial at Cranbourne this week and then we can decide where we go. Jungle Edge might even head to Sydney if the weather was to turn wet in the next four or five weeks.
“But the chances of Jungle Edge heading back to Brisbane are remote. Maybe we’ll be back next year but it is up to the weather Gods.”
Bell said there were a couple of races to suit Jungle Edge in Sydney, and Melbourne usually had wet tracks during the winter.
Jungle Edge had one run in Brisbane for the winter finishing last in the Group Two Victory Stakes.
“He got bad bump in that race which knocked him out of contention. He really does need soft going at this stage of his career,” Bell said.
Jungle Edge has won 13 races but they have all been on rain-affected tracks.
During the 2017 carnivals in Sydney and Brisbane on wet tracks, Jungle Edge was Group One placed three times and won a Group Three race in each centre.
