Group 1-winning colt El Castello, last year’s Spring Champion Stakes victor, has been transferred from Anthony Cummings to the care of Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride.
The rising four-year-old made a sharp rise through the ranks last spring, going from a maiden victory at Warwick Farm to wins in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes and the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes in just four runs.
El Castello hasn’t been seen at the races since finishing fifth in the Victoria Derby last November. He returned to work at Randwick earlier this year but was sent back to the paddock in January due to minor issues including bruising.
Since then, Anthony Cummings had his trainer’s licence rescinded by Racing NSW, requiring him to vacate his Leilani Lodge base at Randwick.
A stable return lodged by Pride now confirms El Castello is back in work at Warwick Farm. Despite the transfer, Cummings remains listed as the managing owner on the Racing Australia database.
