The bid by Jamie Kah to become the first jockey to reach 100 winners in Melbourne in a season will have to wait another day.

Jamie Kah will have to wait until Saturday at Caulfield for another shot at reaching the 100-win mark after a winless day at Sandown.

Assured of her first Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership, Kah remained stranded on 99 wins for the season after Wednesday’s meeting in front of a larger than normal midweek crowd.

Kah is aiming to become the first jockey to reach 100 wins for a season in the metropolitan area of Victoria.

Brett Prebble, who rode Amfissa to victory in the opening race on Wednesday, his solitary ride for the program, came closest in the 1999-2000 season with 99-½ winners.

At the beginning of the 2011-12 season, Racing Victoria moved to recognise a half-win as a whole victory in a jockeys bid for premiership honours.

Kah was rated a $1.10 chance to ride at least one winner on Wednesday’s program and land the milestone while TAB had her $1.75 to ride at least two winners.

In all Kah had rides in all eight races.

Her day started off poorly with Scientific finishing eighth as a $5 chance while the closest she came to success was aboard Murrumbidgee River in the Ladbrokes Switch Handicap (1800m) with the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained galloper finishing third as the $2.20 favourite.

Running on from the tail, Murrumbidgee River was beaten a half-neck and a nose.

Kah’s other rides were: Write The Score, seventh as the $2.90 favourite; So Risque, third at $3.60; Heaven’s Gift, third as $4.40 favourite; Invincible Lad, seventh at $4.80; Part Time Lover, seventh at $8 and National Choice, seventh as the $3.50 favourite.

With six meetings remaining for the 2020-21 season, Kah should reach the milestone.

Kah has bookings in eight of the nine races at Caulfield on Saturday, including Sydney visitor Malkovich in the day’s feature, the Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m).

The Bjorn Baker-trained three-year-old is rated the $2.80 early favourite with TAB.
