James McDonald will partner the Marcel Weiss-trained Loft
James McDonald has made an early commitment to a ride in this year’s Melbourne Cup.
He will partner the Marcel Weiss trained international raider Loft in the big show on November 1.
Loft is co-owned by Ozzie Kheir, meaning that the victorious Melbourne Cup winning owner/jockey partnership from last year’s triumph with Verry Elleegant will be vying for back-to-back wins in the 2022, $8 Melbourne Cup showdown … aiming for lofty heights indeed.
“We have amazing connection with James having also won the Melbourne Cup with Verry Elleegant. What better jockey choice to have on Loft for the 2022 Melbourne Cup?” Kheir told Racing.com.
“We are very grateful that James has committed so early, knowing he would get first pick on most runners. Now it’s just fingers crossed he travels well.
“Marcel (Weiss) will be here for the two weeks while Loft is in quarantine prior to his only run in the Melbourne Cup,” added Kheir.
Loft is currently on Ladbrokes’s second line of betting for the Melbourne Cup at $13 … a price he shares with Duais and Camorra as they all line up behind the ruling race favourite Deauville Legend, who tops the betting boards at $9.
