As the countdown to the $1.5 million Group 1 All-Aged Stakes (1400m) on April 15 continues, dual Group 1 winner Jacquinot is gearing up for the big race, with jockey James McDonald stepping in for a trial ride at Randwick.
McDonald replaces Damian Lane, who is set to begin a two-month contract in Japan.
Jacquinot, who recently returned from a brief break after placing sixth in the Australian Guineas, will compete against Gravina and Tycoon Evie in a 1050-metre open trial.
Reflecting on the Guineas performance, senior trainer Mick Price said, “He pulled up very well from a stressful day. Almost everything that could have gone wrong for him did.”
Despite the challenges, Jacquinot is listed at $6.50 odds with Betr for the All-Aged Stakes, with I Wish I Win, following the T.J. Smith victory, as the $3.30 favourite.
The All-Aged Stakes could be the last race for the Rubick three-year-old colt before embarking on a lucrative stud career.
Jacquinot’s impressive track record includes G1 wins in the Golden Rose and CF Orr Stakes, as well as a placement in the Blue Diamond Stakes.
