The Mick Price andĀ Michael Kent Jnr-trained InundationĀ has made a record-breaking return to the racetrack with a stylish win at Moonee Valley.
Inundation posted a time of 56.84 secs in taking out the Sweeney Estate Agents Caroline Springs Handicap (1000m) lowering the mark of 56.92 secs set by WrittenĀ Beauty in 2020.
Sent out the $2.30 favourite under Jamie Kah, Inundation recorded a 2-Ā¾ length win from Unflinching ($6) with OkayĀ ToĀ Pay ($21) a further 1-Ā¾ lengths away third.
Kent Jnr said he would need to talk to his co-trainer before deciding on a potential next outing.
He said the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Sandown in February had not been ruled out, although another benchmark raceĀ was a likely next outing.
“A benchmark 84 worth $150,000, that would be nice, but he’s definitely a stakes horse coming,” Kent Jnr said.
“That’s what makes him unique. He can travel at an extremely fast tempo.Ā He’s not rushing it, he’s coasting, and heĀ has the ability toĀ absorb pressure.
“He’s obviously got a good cardio-vascular system as he absorbed the pressure then and kept on going in spreading the field out.
“Hopefully he can get a big one, one day.”
InundationĀ hasĀ nowĀ raced six times, registeringĀ four wins, with his two defeats coming at 1100m, once on debut and the second time when closing out his second preparation.
But Kent Jnr does not see that trip being a problem as Inundation is now a more experienced galloper.
“It was pleasing to seeĀ today as he was up in grade after dropping three-year-oldsĀ last time around,” Kent Jnr said.
“He’s had toĀ go to another level,Ā and he’s got to prove he can get a bit further as his wins have been at 1000 metres, but there has been excuses for his defeats at 1100 metres.”
