Daniel Morton’s talented sprinter Immortal Bliss emphatically atoned for his luckless last-start defeat with a commanding victory in the Belmont Newmarket (1200m) at Ascot.
The five-year-old produced a dominant display to score by 2.73 lengths, comfortably accounting for a quality field after finishing an unlucky fifth in the H G Bolton Sprint two starts earlier.
Immortal Bliss had previously claimed the Listed Beaufine Stakes over 1000 metres before his narrow defeat in the H G Bolton Sprint, where just 0.92 lengths separated the first five runners after he was forced to make a wide run.

Under an outstanding ride from Lucy Fiore, the son of I Am Immortal reversed the placings with all four horses that had finished ahead of him in the H G Bolton.
Starting the $3.10 second favourite behind Madhi Girl, Immortal Bliss settled comfortably in midfield, around four lengths off the speed, while Fiore patiently waited for her opportunity.
That opening appeared approaching the 250-metre mark when a gap emerged between leader Final Siren and the weakening Puli.
Immortal Bliss quickly accelerated through the inside, dashed to the lead and had the race effectively won with around 180 metres remaining.
Snowdome finished strongly into second, while Final Siren held on for third.
Trainer Dan Morton admitted the rain-affected track played to his gelding’s strengths.
“We probably had that (a heavy 8 track) in our favour,” Morton said.
“He’s got good wet track form so that wasn’t an issue.
“To be honest, I was saying to Lucy (Fiore) before the race just get as wide as you can because it’s getting pretty worn up, but she’s ridden a few more winners than I have and she got it right.”
