Three-year-old Holler has upstaged the favourites First Seal and Our Malachi to win the $500,000 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick.
Holler easily won the start and the Godolphin colt made all the running for James McDonald to beat glamour mare First Seal and established sprinter-miler Kermadec on Saturday.
“It’s been a great plan that has come off,” trainer John O’Shea said.
“I was really happy Our Boy Malachi stepped slowly because James gave every indication he was going to try to control (the race).”
O’Shea said Holler would be sent to Melbourne to chase another Group One win in the William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Our Boy Malachi weakened late to finish fifth with weight-for-age star Criterion finishing last of the seven runners in his autumn return.
