In-form sprinter and bargain buy Rule Of Law has earned a shot at black-type company

Bjorn Baker is weighing up his next move with promising sprinter Rule Of Law who has notched his fifth win in succession with a dominant display at Rosehill.

The four-year-old, a $450,000 yearling purchase, was sold for just $30,000 by his original owners after he was gelded and lost form.

He subsequently underwent a series of procedures, including a wind operation, and has since embarked on an unbeaten streak for Baker with his victory in Saturday’s Schweppes Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill his fifth win since joining the team.

“I don’t think I’ve ever had a horse win five in a row in Sydney before, it’s very tough to do,” Baker said.

“Winning Rupert did it but that was in Queensland.

“I said to everyone, on his work on Tuesday I thought he was unbeatable, he just went that good. It was as good a gallop as I have probably ever had at Warwick Farm.”

Rule Of Law kicked off his current campaign at the start of the summer but Baker is reluctant to spell him while he is racing so well.

He plans to raise the bar to stakes company but is yet to settle on a target.

“Definitely he is up to that. It’s just a matter of when we go and what we do,” Baker said.

“He’s a pretty exciting horse.”

Winning jockey Tim Clark said the race went to plan with Rule Of Law ($2.15 fav) trailing leader Mr Mosaic before getting the better of him and powering clear to score by two lengths over Emanate ($8.50), who closed late, with Never Talk ($8) another neck away.

“We thought we would be able to track Mr Mosaic without putting too much pressure on him,” Clark said.

“I had the drop on him. I didn’t want to overdo it and let the backmarkers into the race but the horse is racing terrific.

“He can go to stakes grade for sure.”
