Lucy Fiore is riding the crest of a wave and is fast closing in on a landmark century of winners and reaching a personal milestone for the second time in her career.

Hot on the heels of an Ascot treble last Saturday including the main race, Lucy Fiore boosted her season tally to 74 winners in a dynamic display of riding.

On either side of the Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m) aboard Generosity, Fiore booted home Brazen Empress and WA Derby aspirant Sail Session

Fiore currently holds down fourth position in the Western Australian jockey’s premiership, sitting behind Chris Parnham, Clint Johnston-Porter and William Pike.

Fiore’s also on track to break the 102-win barrier, a career high that she set as a star apprentice in 2015/16, her first full season after her debut in Albany.

Fiore made a spectacular start to her life as a jockey when 17-months after her first ride she outrode her claim faster than any other junior rider in WA.

Fiore is rapt to be back near the top of the jockey ranks again and says knuckling down and putting in the hard yards has been a key to her form resurgence.

“I’m aiming for a 100 wins this season,” Fiore said on Tabradio.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve ridden 100 winners in a season.

“I probably haven’t applied myself as much as I have this past season.

“You obviously work hard, go everywhere, go to the country and it all falls into line.

“It’s great to be back there but definitely putting in a lot more effort.

“I just have to keep going, keep working and hopefully it all falls into line.”

It all fell into place for Fiore and Glasgow Lass when they combined for an Ascot 1000 Guineas victory (1800m) two weeks ago.

Doing her WA Oaks campaign no harm at all, the Mitch Pateman-trained three-year-old broke through for a valuable black-type win.

The daughter of Alabama Express has been dogged by bad luck on and off the track but gave a sharp reminder of what she was capable off.

Fiore and Glasgow Lass will chase further stakes success and hope to move a step closer to the Oaks in Saturday’s Natasha Stakes (2200m).

“It’s been like a new challenge every time,” Fiore said.

“She’s gone up and up in grade and up in distance.

“She’s definitely up to the task and I’m looking forward to riding her on Saturday.”
