The Caulfield Cup dream remains very much alive for Tony and Calvin McEvoy after their emerging stayer Half Yours surged into calculations.
The five-year-old flashed home for fourth in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes on Saturday and now sits a $3.50 favourite for the $5 million Caulfield Cup on October 18.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to run fourth in a race before,” said McEvoy following Half Yours’ trip to the beach on Sunday morning.
“It was a real test for him going up to this level against the genuine top horses in this country over 2000m, he was probably looking for the mile and a half. He just jumped a little bit slower than what we thought, which meant he got back further than what we thought but he really sprinted well.
“I can’t wait to dive into the sectionals, and I thought it was an amazing prep run for two weeks’ time.”
