Guest House remains on course for the $20 million The Everest despite suffering his first defeat of the campaign in Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Rose.
Co-trainer Michael Kent Jnr said the three-year-old had pulled up well from his Rosehill run and plans to target The Everest remained in place, although the final decision will rest with his ownership group headed by Coolmore.
Guest House started the $2.45 favourite in the Golden Rose but finished sixth behind dominant winner Warwoven, beaten 5.55 lengths after becoming involved in a bumping duel with St Gotthard.
Kent Jnr told Giddy Up with Gareth Hall that the colt had come through the performance in good order.
Co-trainer Mick Price plans to send Guest House to Coolmore’s Mount White property for a freshen-up, where he will also undergo cold-water treatment ahead of a potential Everest start.
Coolmore bought into Guest House following his victory in the Golden Slipper in a deal valued at $30 million.
The operation’s Everest slot shapes as the most likely avenue into the 12-horse field should connections elect to continue towards the Randwick sprint.
Meanwhile, Group 1 winner Briasa will miss the remainder of the spring after being sent to the paddock.
Co-trainer Wayne Hawkes confirmed the decision on SEN Track, with Briasa to be given a break rather than continue his campaign.
