Hinchinbrook’s son Derryn is expected to be boosted by the rain-affected ground in Sydney, yet to miss a place on a wet track with Randwick currently rated a Soft 6. The 4-year-old last year won the Group 2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Randwick, getting the better of Global Glamour and Impending on soft ground.
That was the last time Derryn prevailed however was equally as impressive, if not better next start when finishing just 0.8L off Redzel, placing in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000. The Lindsay Park Galloper has struggled for form since in spite of this, struggling in his last 5 starts.
It will be a different story come Saturday in the Challenge Stakes if out of sorts Derryn can return to his best, showing glimpses of potential when winding up from last to beat some home last time out at Sandown. His last 200m was exceptionally good, reaching 71.15 kp/h.
The track and distance should be ideal for the previous first-up winner, chasing victory number 4 in his 18th start. Derryn has drawn barrier 7 with Josh Parr to ride and is a current $31 shot with Sportsbet.
