Trainers Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock are targeting Melbourne Cup starts for their stayers, Let’sbefrankbaby and Aberfeldie Boy, in the coming weeks. If they don’t qualify, other staying race options are being considered.
Aberfeldie Boy will run in the 2000-metre handicap at Caulfield on Saturday, with blinkers added to regain his promising form. The gelding is also aiming for The Archer and The Bart Cummings to secure a Melbourne Cup ticket.
Let’sbefrankbaby is set for the 1800-metre Benchmark 78 at Caulfield and plans to enter through races like the Benalla Cup and Bendigo Cup. If not, the Queen Elizabeth Stakes is an alternative.
King Magnus will contest the Heatherlie Stakes over 1700m at Caulfield, with de Kock confirming, “He’s a miler, and he’ll stay over that distance in the future.”
