Golden Slipper winner and successful sire Stratum has died suddenly at Widden Stud of a heart attack.
Trained by Paul Perry to win the 2005 Golden Slipper, Stratum began standing at Widden in the Hunter Valley the following year.
He was the champion first season sire and champion two-year-old sire highlighted by Crystal Lily’s 2010 Golden Slipper win.
His progeny included four-time Group One winner Streama.
“It’s a very sad day for us all,” Widden’s owner Antony Thompson said on Tuesday.
“He was a great stallion and such a lovely kind horse. He was great to work with and he will be sadly missed.”
