Nine trainers have been announced as given horses from the Godolphin operation

With the imminent departure of James Cummings from the Godolphin operation, nine stables have been announced as taking horses from the global operation in the new season.

The nine stables are based in New South Wales and Victoria and include all the leading trainers in Australia.

They include Group 1 winning trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman, who have an existing relationship with Godolphin, as well as Ben, Will and J D Hayes, Bjorn Baker, Chris Waller, Ciaron Maher, Gary Portelli, Joe Pride, Michael Freedman along with Tony and Calvin McEvoy.

Godolphin Australia managing director Andy Makiv, said Godolphin was delighted with the quality of the trainers that had agreed to come on board with the new public training model.

“We were delighted with the interest shown, the trainers we did meet with, and ultimately the trainers we have engaged,” Makiv said.

“It certainly wasn’t an easy decision, and it doesn’t preclude opportunities for others (trainers) in the future.”

Makiv said the Godolphin horses would be placed with their new trainers from the start of the new racing season, August 1.

Horses of note to find new homes include Tom Kitten who will join star colt Tentyris in the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable.

Former Oaks winner Zardozi and highly-credentialled two-year-old Tempted head to Ciaron Maher while Golden Mile links up with Joe Pride. Pericles moves to Bjorn Baker and both Commemorative and Beiwacht will be trained by Chris Waller.

The spread of horses amongst the nine stables named has come about following the announcement by Godolphin in April that it was moving to a public training model.

Subsequently it was announced that Cummings would be taking up a training position in Hong Kong, beginning in the 2026-27 season.

“We are very grateful to have had James working successfully with us for so many years and want to wish him and his family every success in Hong Kong,” Makiv said.
