Glyn Schofield has given Hay List the tick of approval for the the Group One Doomben 10,000 after making a rushed trip from Sydney to ride the giant sprinter in a course proper gallop at Doomben.
Schofield was Hay List’s regular rider in Melbourne last spring and in Sydney during the autumn before injury forced him to miss the gelding’s win in the Group One All Aged Stakes at Randwick on April 23.
Glen Boss was called up to replace Schofield who broke a collar bone after his mount Hawk Island crashed in the Sydney Cup at Randwick.
Boss kept the mount while Schofield was still recuperating when Hay List was gunned down by Caviar in the Group One BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben a week ago.
Schofield is excited about Hay List’s Doomben 10,000 prospects after partnering him in his workout at Doomben.
“He went over 800 metres and it was a good piece of work,” Schofield said before flying back to Sydney to ride at Rosehill.
“He looked tremendous and is a big strong brute.”
Schofield said Wednesday’s barrier draw would be crucial to riding tactics but he expected Hay List to lead.
“He’s not one dimensional so he doesn’t have to lead but he’s been running extremely well leading so why change.”
Hay List was immediately elevated to favouritism for the Doomben 10,000 following the announcement last week of Black Caviar’s withdrawal.
