As you would expect, Glen Boss was perfectly relaxed and comfortable at the launch of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival … a carnival he hopes to put his stamp on over the coming weeks.
Two years ago, Boss was also a feature guest at the 2019 Carnival launch in Queensland. At that time, having just returned from Singapore, he was still debating in his mind his exact path into the future with Queensland temporarily put at the end of that line as a place where he would like to see out his final years as a jockey.
And boy did he pull the right rein by heading to the southern states first.
Big race win after big race win followed with all of those successes celebrated in Boss’s own inimitable, exuberant style … an exaggerated salute which often brought him to the attention of the stewards and earned the ire of some punters, probably those who had backed a beaten runner.
“It’s been good,” agreed Boss, “and, for sure, you have got to celebrate the wins … every win, big or small is worth celebrating. That is what life is all about. Trying to achieve things and celebrating when you do.
“You don’t want to look back and think I could have done that a bit better. That’s not what I am all about. Rather enjoy it to the full in the moment.”
Two years later and that possible Queensland swansong has been pushed back even further … that is, if it is still even in play.
Boss found the answer to that question difficult to pinpoint.
“I’m living in Sydney now and that is where things are for me,” said Boss. “I never rule out anything. Honestly, right now though … as far where I might end up in the future, that is a very tough question which I can’t answer at the moment.
“I guess that will be a decision to be made when that time comes around.”
For now though, Boss has based himself in Queensland for the next six to eight weeks for the Queensland Carnival
He kicks off his Carnival campaign at Eagle Farm tomorrow where he will ride Vega One in the Victory Stakes, Military Gambler in the Dalrello Stakes and Setanta in the Quality Handicap.
