Gin Twist will chase some consolation on missing a Golden Slipper start by starting at Flemington.

The Lindsay Park stable of Ben, Will and J D Hayes was left deflated after their two fillies did not make the final cut for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill.

Medicinal and Gin Twist were emergencies two and three respectively in Australia’s richest two-year-old race.

Ben Hayes was disappointed neither one of the pair made the field as there was no scratchings from the 16 two-year-olds that contested last Saturday’s Group 1 contest.

“It’s a shame we didn’t get in,” Hayes said.

“You win a Stakes race, and you normally get in, but this year it was just so open.

“They were taking their turns in winning and with the prize money so strong in New South Wales, we ended up just missing out.”

With Gin Twist the third emergency for the Golden Slipper, the Hayes boys made the decision to keep the filly in Melbourne.

A winner down the Flemington straight on February 28, Gin Fizz returns to that track on Saturday to contest the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m).

It follows an easy jump-out at Flemington last week where Gin Twist finished third in a heat over 800m.

“We made the decision to not even send her up,” Hayes said.

“It didn’t look like she was any chance of getting a run, so we took the opportunity of giving her a jump-out at home instead.”

Gin Twist is a daughter of Golden Slipper winning sire Home Affairs and was impressive in winning a Listed race over 1000m down the straight on February 28.

“She’s had that experience down the straight and hopefully that will hold her in good stead on Saturday,” Hayes said.

While Gin Twist stayed in Melbourne, Medicinal was transported to Sydney in the hope of gaining an unlikely start in the Golden Slipper.

Hayes said the filly would have a trial in Sydney in the lead-up to the Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 11.
