The final piece of the puzzle has been ticked for Getta Good Feeling as she chases her maiden Group 1 victory.
The Danny O’Brien-trained filly has barrier 5 in Saturday’s Australasian Oaks (2000m) at Morphettville.
A capacity field of 16 plus four emergencies has accepted for one of two Group 1 races on Saturday’s card in Adelaide.
Getta Good Feeling will come into barrier three if the emergencies do not gain a start where she will be ridden by Billy Egan who has been aboard the filly in both runs this campaign for victories at Flemington and Caulfield.
O’Brien bypassed a start in the Anniversary Vase (1600m) at Caulfield on April 11, opting instead for a jump-out at Geelong last Wednesday.
“She trialled really well,” O’Brien said.
“She has come back very well this prep. Both starts she has won, and this was always her target for the autumn.
“We specifically didn’t get ready for Sydney because we wanted to have a crack at this, at 2000 metres, and everything’s gone to plan.”
O’Brien said while he gave consideration to running Getta Good Feeling at Caulfield, he felt by missing that run he could potentially extract another run from the filly later in the campaign.
A trip to Brisbane for the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on June 6 remains a possibility.
“She’s fit and well, and I’m sort of half minded that if she won the Oaks, in Adelaide, that we’d take her up to Brisbane, for the Oaks up there,” O’Brien said.
“I thought I’d rather have another run up my sleeve for later, rather than get another one into her now.
“She won the Wakeful (Stakes 2000m) and run third in the 1000 Guineas (in the spring), so four of our last five have been very, very good runs, and she’s a very classy filly.
“She got 2200 (metres) in the VRC Oaks (over 2500m) and the Queensland Oaks is 2200 and that is why we thought this as well.
“Plus, it gave us a bit more time to give her a proper break after the spring when we decided that we wouldn’t try and get to Sydney.”
