Read what each of the jockeys had to say about the runs of their mounts in the 2021 Futurity Stakes on Saturday.
Winning Jockey: Damian Lane (Probabeel)
“She was super. She’s so versatile. She jumped well and I brought her back. I put her in the race early and not many horses can sustain a sprint from as far out as she did. She was too good.”
Quick sprint on turn: “That’s why I asked her early to get on top of them, on top of Behemoth at least. What would take you 100 metres at least, took me about 20 metres. She’s just so classy, a pleasure to ride.”
The opposition: “I was worried about the cavalry pulling into the race on my back. I was luck she was so tough and the quality of the race was another level from what you saw last start. She’s going to meet another good field in a few weeks in The All-Star Mile.”
Beaten jockeys:
Damien Oliver (Behemoth): “I had a nice run, presented like I was a winning chance, but found a few better today.”
Zac Spain (Streets Of Avalon): “We had to do a bit too much work early which probably took a toll late.”
Jamie Kah (Mr Quickie): “Awesome run. He’s come back super.”
Luke Nolen (So Si Bon): “He was good. First-up just peaked a little bit late. I’m not sure what the options are going forward but it was a pleasing return.”
Declan Bates (Too Close The Sun): “I’d say he ran quite well. Just over 1400 (metres) and at this level he was run off his feet a bit early and finished off ok but he’ll be better off over further.”
Willie Pike (Arcadia Queen): “Very good run. That’s what she had today. Hopefully she takes some improvement out of it and she’ll be good again.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Ole Kirk): “Down on the inside was not ideal but I was not able to get off the inside into the better ground. He didn’t enjoy that softer ground on the inside.”
Daniel Stackhouse (Crosshaven): “Disappointing.”
