While the attention turns to champion Winx and her Cox Plate build-up, the mare isn’t the only horse in Sydney’s premier stable with lofty spring targets.
Group One winner Foxplay will step out in the same barrier trial as Winx at Randwick on Monday.
The two are housed in neighbouring boxes at Rosehill and Foxplay will follow a similar spring path as Winx did in her four-year-old season.
“They are mates,” Waller said.
“They travelled to Melbourne together last year. Foxplay will have a similar program as Winx had heading to the Epsom Handicap.
“Then we might look at a race like the Toorak Handicap.”
Egg Tart is back in the stable after a short break since she emulated Winx to win the Queensland Oaks in early June.
The filly went to the Classic already a Group One winner of the Schweppes Oaks in Adelaide.
“She raced in four states. She went from Sydney to Melbourne to Adelaide and then Queensland and won in all four places,” Waller said.
“The Epsom is also could be the race for her. We will look at the Caulfield Cup but it’s a hard race for fillies early in their four-year-old season.”
Omei Sword is another filly about to turn four and is untapped after a respiratory problem thwarted a tilt at the Group One Flight Stakes in the spring and a bleeding attack in the Coolmore Classic stopped her autumn.
“We don’t know much about her,” Waller said.
“She is about ten days away from a trial and could be a perfect horse for the Golden Pendant.”
The Group Two Golden Pendant (1400m) on September 23 is a race for fillies and mares at set weights and penalties.
The three fillies are just some of the horses in Waller’s stable he expects can shine this spring with his only problem keeping them apart to maximise their opportunities.
“It’s hard but we’ve got two states to look at,” he said.
“We want to try to keep them separate.”
