Forzanini was a popular winner on Wednesday as the filly knuckled down late to claim victory in The Agency Real Estate Plate (1100m) on the Kensington track.
The Snowden-trained filly is part-owned by Nini Conallin, the Australian Turf Club’s social media guru.
Conallin is currently fighting cancer and was dealt some tough news earlier in the week, making the win of Forzanini that much sweeter.
Conallin was on course to see the two-year-old break her maiden, with co-trainer Paul Snowden saying it was a confidence boosting win for the filly, who showed her determination in the win.
“We spoke at length pre-race that if she just gets that luck and switches off that she could certainly win today,” he said.
“She hasn’t had any luck at all early and mid-race in her races and she’s doing the little things wrong that she probably shouldn’t be.
“She just hasn’t had that good experience yet and today she was afforded that by Sam (Clipperton) off a good draw.
“She only got out late, but once she did, she hit the line well which gives us great confidence going forward into a bit further.
“If she’s got the strength of Nini, it’s certainly going to take her a long way in her racing, that’s for sure.”
Forzanini broke away cleanly from barrier four and Sam Clipperton was able to position the filly in the middle of the pack.
He sliced his way through the field and the two-year-old showed an impressive turn of foot at the 200m mark to run down the leader and win by just 0.16 lengths.
Clipperton was pleased with the performance, saying 1400m isn’t out of the picture for the filly.
“She just has a tendency to want to overdo it in her races and today was probably the first opportunity where I could really get her in behind a couple,” he said.
“She still wanted to travel keen, but she showed a good turn of foot at the end of it.
“I think she’s got a bit of class around her, it’s just a matter of getting her racing manners right.
“If she does so, she’ll definitely get up over seven furlongs.
