Windstorm, the seven-year-old gelding, is set to make his much-anticipated comeback at Flemington this Saturday after a brief setback last month.
The horse’s appearance at Caulfield on July 22 was aborted due to a minor issue, possibly caused by stepping on a nail, according to owner Bob Peters.
However, Peters assured that the setback was not serious, and Windstorm is in good shape for the upcoming race.
Windstorm hasn’t raced since the 2020 Golden Eagle at Rosehill, where he finished 14th and later had a bout of illness.
Before that, he had an impressive record, winning seven of his 11 starts.
A recent trial at Pakenham on July 18 showed promising form for Windstorm, raising hopes for a strong performance in Saturday’s race, the VRC Member Dennis Foley Sprint (1410m).
Peters and trainer John Leek Jnr are looking forward to evaluating the horse’s form in the first two starts to plan his future races in the spring season.
The excitement grows as Windstorm’s stablemate, Devoted, also owned by Peters, will be competing in the same race.
Devoted, a dual Stakes winner in Perth as a three-year-old, hasn’t raced since late 2022.
