Richard and Michael Freedman won a Gr 1 race at Randwick when their filly FORBIDDEN LOVE (All Too Hard – Juliet’s Princess) stormed the fortress to win the Surround Stakes over 1400m, running away.
It shocked a few as the filly was a $10 chance.
She certainly didn’t win like a $10 chance. She destroyed them winning by 3 lengths.
VANGELIC (Vancouver – Angel Bee) ran a terrific race for 2nd with ELIZABEEL (Power – Now And Again) powering home out wide to grab 3rd.
The star fillies: Hungry Heart 8th, Dame Giselle 9th and Montefilia 6th all missing a place and being soundly beaten.
Nash Rawiller rode the winner who had been well backed at the Gold Coast in a $2million race her start prior but finished 6th.
“We were disappointed with that run up there, but she didn’t travel up there well. So we tipped her out for a spell at Julian Blaxland’s farm.
“And that was it until he phoned us after two weeks and suggested we come and get her because she was thriving. She was doing so well we just had to put her back into work,” said Michael Freedman. “And now she is a Gr 1 winner.”
Forbidden Love cost $150,000 as a yearling at the 2019 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale.
She has now won over $700,000.
Multiple Gr 1 winner Montefilia was last coming to the bend and did not accelerate for about 150m in the straight then came home hard to grab 6th.
She will improve a great deal, but so will the winner who has every run.
“Late last year she was running in midweek races so that win today was a marked improvement,” added Freedman.
