Yulong has added another exciting prospect to its stallion line-up for 2025, with the well-credentialed First Settler (Written Tycoon) set to stand for $11,000 (inc GST). The Group 1-winning colt becomes the third new addition to the Yulong roster this season, further strengthening the stud’s elite offering.
A $750,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase from Baramul Stud, First Settler was a standout from the outset. Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr, he made a big impression in his two-year-old debut at Caulfield, winning by a sharp 2.5 lengths. Just weeks later, he confirmed his talent with another decisive victory in a juvenile handicap at Flemington.
His three career wins from six starts were headlined by a career-best performance in the Group 1 Danehill Stakes, capping off a campaign that underlined his elite speed and class. Unbeaten as a juvenile, First Settler now follows in the footsteps of his Champion Sire Written Tycoon by joining the stallion ranks at Yulong in 2025.
Luke McDonald of Baramul Stud remembered the colt as “exceptionally well-muscled, very robust, strong, and well-proportioned,” adding, “he had a bit of X-factor about him.”

Yulong’s Chief Operating Officer, Sam Fairgray, echoed that sentiment, highlighting First Settler’s appeal to commercial breeders.
“First Settler was a big, strong, forward colt with a great temperament from day one,” Fairgray said. “He is by a Champion Sire, out of a fast Street Cry mare, and from a family full of Group 1 performers.”
“On the track, he had blistering speed and toughness, and he’s exactly the type of athletic, precocious horse that breeders love. We believe he offers exceptional value, starting his career at a similar affordable fee to his father.”
