The Queensland Oaks is back on the agenda for Fibrillation who has revived her Group One aspirations with victory at Rosehill.
Trainer Tim Martin’s plans to run the filly in the Doomben Roses in Brisbane on Saturday had to be abandoned when she struggled to overcome a foot injury caused by a corn.
The Group One placegetter’s fortunes turned around just in time for Martin to start her in the Nepean Engineering Handicap (1800m) at Rosehill and she came from last in a stunning Oaks trial to nail favourite The Verminator on the line to win by a nose with Contract Caterer third.
Fibrillation’s victory elevated her to $5 second favourite in a revised TAB Sportsbet Queensland Oaks market behind New Zealand filly Scarlett Lady who shot to $3.50 favouritism with an impressive win in the Doomben Roses.
“Full credit to the vet Allan Frogley and Jason Brittle the farrier,” Martin said.
“I thought last week she would be right and then it flared up again.
“I thought she was no hope getting here today and therefore she couldn’t get to the Oaks, but it turned around in 24 hours.
“They made some shoes up for her and she got here. Fortunately the Diatribe breed don’t need a lot of work.”
Fibrillation raced with heart bar plates in front and came from the tail of the field with apprentice Adam Hyeronimus claiming his first Saturday metropolitan winner in the process.
“I hate racing horses with heart bar plates because they rarely win,” Martin said.
“I thought on the corner she wasn’t going to win but she just got there.
“It was a nice Oaks trial so she’ll go up there for the Oaks now.”
The Group One Queensland Oaks (2400m) is at Eagle Farm on June 4.
Fibrillation was having her first start since running fourth in the Group One AJC Australian Oaks on April 16.
Before that the talented grey filly had finished second in the Group One Storm Queen Stakes (2000m).
