This weekend’s Longreach meeting in Queensland will mark the final race for veteran campaigner Fab’s Cowboy. The 12-year-old will face mandatory retirement next month, with his last race being the Farewell Fab’s Cowboy (1200m).
Trained by Bevan Johnson in Barcaldine, Fab’s Cowboy debuted in November 2015, finishing ninth in a 1000m maiden at Roma. He secured his first win six months later at Gladstone.
Fab’s Cowboy has enjoyed a stellar career with 158 starts, 54 wins, and 46 placings, boasting a strike rate of over 34%. The gelding, by Greenwood Lake, has earned over $440,000 in prize money, averaging about $2800 per race.
He has raced at 40 tracks across Queensland, winning races from 1000m to 1640m. After his final race, Fab’s Cowboy will retire to Living Legends in Melbourne, where he will enjoy a well-deserved rest.
