Exosphere has continued a domination of colts in the Golden Rose with an emphatic win in the $1 million race at Rosehill.
A three-year-old with a physical presence to match his obvious ability, Exosphere took a split at the 300m to challenge the leader Speak Fondly before drawing away for a clear-cut win over the filly.
“He’s a super colt, unbelievable,” jockey James McDonald said.
“I’ve just got to sit there and he makes me look good.”
Sebring Sun, one of the outsiders of the field, ran on from last to finish in the minor placing.
As Exosphere enjoyed an uninterrupted run to give the Godolphin/Darley operation its third Golden Rose win since the race was elevated to Group One level, there were no such favours for the second favourite Press Statement.
Press Statement was caught between runners in the straight and each time jockey Tye Angland attempted to get into the clear, his run was closed.
Colts have now won six of the seven Golden Roses decided since 2009.
