The Chris Nash trained Mayameen (Simon Miller), once again showed just how much she is enjoying life at the Top End when she prevailed in a two-horse battle with the Jason Manning trained Niewand (Vanessa Arnott) to take out the Palmerston Sprint over 1200m in Darwin.
The three-year-old chestnut filly arrived in the Northern Territory from South Australia as a two-time winner from six starts and she has now won four out of the five races she has contested in Darwin.
Interestingly enough, in all of their last three starts, Mayameen and Niewand have run the quinella.
Simon Miller, who partnered Mayameen, scored a double at the meeting, also winning aboard the Stephen Brown trained Dream Weaver.
Jarrod Todd also rode a double at the meeting (Fort Knox and Patria) both for trainer Gary Clarke who took out the Palmerston Sprint Day training honours.
Darwin will host a massive eleven race program on Monday August 2 featuring the $200,000 Great Northern Darwin Cup which has attracted a full field of twelve runners (with two emergencies) for the 2050m event.
