Coolmore Stud Stakes winner Switzerland progressing well ahead of big 2025 campaign

Buoyed by Home Affairs’ amazing results at the first sale buyers had the chance to buy his progeny, Coolmore is excited about the prospects of the stallion-in-waiting they plan to send on a similar path.

Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) winner Switzerlandย is well-advanced in his preparations for a campaign that is being geared around Royal Ascot in June.

Not put off by Home Affairs’ disappointing performance in the 2022 King’s Stand Stakes, Coolmore is targetting the same carnival with the Chris Waller-trained Switzerland, who is nearing the trial stage of his campaign.

The plan is to resume in the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m), the race Home Affairs won at his first start after his Coolmore Stud Stakes success, which will be run at Flemington on February 15.

“He’s going well, Chris is happy with him and James (McDonald) is happy with him,” Coolmore’s Tom Magnier said.

“He spelled at the farm at Mt White and Chris is happy with the way that he came back.

“If he’s half the horse that he was the day we saw him in the Coolmore there’ll be plenty to look forward to, but we’re all very happy with him.”

Switzerland stretched his record to five wins from seven starts with his Coolmore Stud Stakes win, having also won the Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) and Todman Stakes (1200m) at Group 2 level.

The son of Snitzel and American mare Ms Bad Behaviour will one day occupy a place on the Coolmore roster alongside Home Affairs, who produced the filly out of Sunlight who set a new Magic Millions yearling record when sold for $3.2m on Friday.

It was one of two seven-figure yearlings for the son of I Am Invincible, who was the leading first-season sire by both gross ($17,835,000) and average ($396,333) in Book 1 Magic Millions.
