Entain to pay NZ$100 million for exclusive NZ betting rights

New legislation passed by New Zealand Parliament is set to significantly enhance the country’s betting landscape, with reforms poised to benefit both the racing industry and sporting codes while providing improved protections for local bettors.

When the bill becomes law later this month, it will include robust harm minimisation measures for New Zealand customers. A key component of the changes will be a NZ$100 million payment from Entain Group, which will follow the implementation of amendments to the Racing Industry Act, further solidifying Entain’s commitment to the sector.

Entain operates prominent betting brands in New Zealand, including TAB and betcha, offering a broad range of betting services. Its 25-year strategic partnership with TAB NZ began in June 2023, with a commitment of over $360 million to racing and national sporting organisations in the first two years, and nearly $1 billion over the first five years.

Entain’s TAB platform underwent a major refresh in April 2024, introducing a world-leading suite of safer betting tools to all users. These were also rolled out to betcha customers following the platform’s August 2024 launch.

The harm minimisation features include setting deposit and individual bet limits, betting curfews, market visibility controls, blackout days, self-exclusion tools, and full account closure options. Additional responsible gambling options are planned for the New Zealand market to further Entain’s leadership in customer protection.
