Segenhoe Stud made headlines at the 2021 Magic Millions Yearling Sale when they sold an I Am Invincible filly out of Eloping for $900,000 to Godolphin. That filly went on to become the dual Group I-winning $5 million earner, In Secret. Fast forward to this year’s Gold Coast sale, and all eyes were on her full sister as she entered the ring on Wednesday, with high expectations for a record-breaking result.
The filly, the sixth foal out of Group III-winning Choisir mare Eloping, sparked fierce bidding. Her two-year-old full sister, Kerber, fetched $1.15 million at last year’s sale, adding to the family’s burgeoning reputation. Ultimately, the star filly was secured for $2.3 million by Laguna Partnership and John Sargent Racing.

John Sargent will oversee the filly’s training for her new owner, Ian Moses.
“I’ve been training for Ian—a fellow Kiwi—for a long time, and he’s now building a broodmare band. You’ve got to buy the best, and I think this was the best filly in the sale today,” Sargent said. He also highlighted the importance of achieving Black Type success to further enhance the filly’s value.
Ian Moses, enthusiastic about his growing broodmare portfolio, expressed confidence in his acquisition.
“She was the dominant filly. Great temperament. I realised that if you want to be in this business at the top end, you’ve got to put in the investment,” Moses said.
He added, “The long-term strategy is to have at least ten high-quality broodmares stationed at Coolmore, and I’m almost up to ten now, on the track and at the stud farm.”
This acquisition is a significant step in Moses’ vision of developing a premier breeding operation, with this record-setting purchase being a cornerstone of his ambitious plans.
