Hugh Bowman says G3 winner Duais will be a live chance in the Australian Oaks if connections decide to back her up.

Edward Cummings will decide early this week whether Adrian Knox Stakes winner Duais will take her place in the G1 Australian Oaks.

The filly gave the young horseman his first stakes success as a trainer in his own right when she raced away with Saturday’s G3 feature at Randwick on Saturday.

Hailing from one of racing’s most famous families, Cummings took the milestone in his stride saying he would see how Duais came through the run before committing to an Oaks start.

“We will get through Tuesday morning work and see how she is, but all things going well she’ll be here in seven day’s time and run a really nice race,” Cummings said.

Hugh Bowman gave Duais a lovely run midfield and she emerged from the pack to score by a half-length over Bargain with Flexible, trained by Cummings’ brother James, third.

The top jockey was confident heading into Saturday’s race after riding Duais to a midweek win last start and said she would be a genuine chance in next weekend’s 2400 metre classic.

“She is going to make her presence felt in the Oaks next week if that is where they decide to go,” Bowman said.

“She has got staying filly written all over her.”

Meanwhile, Chris Waller confirmed September Run would head to Saturday’s Arrowfield Stud Stakes at Randwick after being scratched from the T J Smith Stakes, won by stablemate Nature Strip.

“The filly is fit and well and will be better suited by next week’s three-year-old race,” Waller said.
