Trainer Phillip StokesĀ has a fairly good idea as to the ability of Devils Delight who is set to make his debut at Moonee Valley.
Devils Delight runsĀ in the Ladbrokes Mates Mode Handicap (1200m) on Saturday opposed to six opponents, four of which are having their first starts.
Stokes took a team of two-year-oldsĀ to the Traralgon trials on December 8 where fiveĀ of his youngsters competed against each other over 950m.
Devils Delight took out the heat from stablemate Beauty Rising andĀ Starscent.
Beauty Rising is the only one of the five to have been to theĀ races, finishing second to Croation Belle in a two-year-old fillies race at Moonee Valley on December 16.
Jamie MottĀ rode Devils Delight in the Traralgon trial and has the mount on the son of Hellbent on SaturdayĀ in which he will jump from gate one.
“He’s a lovely horse and he’s got a perfect gate,” Mott said.
“There doesn’t look any standouts in it. The raced onesĀ have only just performed, and a couple of the others look to have trialled up OK, so we’ll have to see.
“He’s worked up nicely since the trial and gave his work rider a nice feel.”
Devils Delight is a brother to the Chris Waller-trainedĀ AmmahellĀ who was a debut two-year-old winner at Warwick FarmĀ in July.
Stokes said he likes the way Devils Delight goes about his work, adding the form from the Traralgon trial has shaped up well to date.
“The horse I had that ran second in that trial at Traralgon, Beauty Rising, came out and ran second at Moonee Valley last Friday night,” Stokes said.
“I thinkĀ thisĀ blokeĀ Is a nice horse with scope to improve.”
Devils Delight heads the market at $3.20 with another debutant Invincible Shield the second pick at $4.60.
