Trainer David Hayes, who is based in Hong Kong, confirmed that his sons Ben, JD, and Will’s leading horse, Mr Brightside, is set to participate in the Hong Kong International Races at Sha Tin this coming December.
Hayes, who has strong ties to Hong Kong, had previously hinted that Australia’s top middle-distance runner could make the trip overseas. He solidified these plans during a conversation with the Hong Kong Jockey Club on Tuesday.
“Mr Brightside’s definitely coming, which race will be decided after the Cox Plate,” Hayes said.
Both Mr Brightside, a six-year-old gelding sired by Bullbars, and his Blue Diamond-winning stablemate Little Brose have been vaccinated, clearing the way for them to compete in Hong Kong. They are considering either the Hong Kong Mile (1600m) or the Hong Kong Cup (2000m) as possible events for Mr Brightside.
