Disgraced trainer Darren Weir will discover his fate tomorrow morning at a Victorian Racing Tribunal hearing. The charges against Weir stem from the use of a jigger, an electric shock device, on racehorses.
Racing Victoria stewards are seeking a hefty penalty – a 10-year ban on top of the previous four-year disqualification Weir served. Weir’s defense team maintains the Melbourne Cup winner is remorseful and fully rehabilitated.
The hearing follows Weir’s guilty plea to animal cruelty charges, while separate corruption charges were dismissed last month. The verdict is expected to be delivered on Friday morning at 9:15 am AEST.
