Dan Morton, trainer of Buzzoom, is confident his three-year-old -filly can exact revenge on key rival Amasenus in Saturday’s Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic (1400m).

Buzzoom and Amasenus renew hostilities for the second time in a fortnight after their tight encounter in the Marjorie Charleson Classic (1200m).

The Simon Miller -trained Amasenus and Buzzoom went stride for stride in the straight, but it was the former who prevailed and grabbed bragging rights with a long-neck victory.

A winner of the Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) last November, Buzzoom was having the second run of her preparation after a return win over 1200m in March.

Buzzoom jumps from barrier five for regular jockey, Chris Parnham and carries 54kg, gaining a 1 ½ kg weight swing in her favour over Amasenus.

In a battle of the jockey-brothers, Amasenus will be ridden by Brad Parnham and in an eight horse line-up, has drawn barrier two.

Buzzoom is the Tabtouch Fixed Odds favourite at $2.35, firming from $2.60. Amasenus is $3.80 and on the second line of betting.

Dan Morton said Buzzoom deserved her market status in the Sheila Gwynne Classic.

He’s confident she can turn the tables on Amasenus and go one better after a close second in the Marjorie Charleson Classic.

“I thought she was great, a three-year-old filly taking on older, tougher mares,” Morton told The Races WA.

“She’ll appreciate the 1400m and I’ve liked what I’ve seen trackwork wise.

“She’s drawn a nice gate and Chris (Parnham) knows her very well.

“I won’t second guess where he lands, Chris is in great form.

“They are both going in in good shape.

“She’s a deserving favourite.”

Morton and Parnham can enhance their Sheila Gwynne Classic record after they combined with Dendee in 2017.

Morton is chasing his third victory after he also prepared Soldier’s Lass (2014) and Scenic Fair (2010).

Meanwhile on Sunday, Morton is excited by the return of Elite Street in the G3 Northam Mazda Stakes (1100m).

The five-year-old has not raced since the Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) in November, a G1 event he won a year earlier.

The Street Boss gelding, who has two wins from five first-up attempts, bled from both nostrils when third to Graceful Girl.

He wasn’t asked to do too much in a warm-up trial, running sixth to Massimo and punters have been quick to support him.

A winner in eight of 17 races and $1.1 million in prizemoney, he’s the rock solid favourite, firming to $2.35 from his opening $2.75 price on Tabtouch.

“His trial was good, all his work has been good, so I’m looking forward to Sunday,” Morton said.

“We’ll just let him find his feet early, he’s very effective late.

“Sometimes when he’s fresh he can want to overdo it early.

“You have to be mindful of that and that’s about it.

“With a little bit of luck, he hasn’t lost any of his zest and hopefully is in for another good prep.”

Elite Street will jump from barrier seven. Parnham (Chris) replaces Brad Rawiller who will miss the plum ride because of COVID-19.
