NZ G2 placegetter Cut Me Loose will do his future racing in America
New Zealand Group Two placegetter Cut Me Loose will do his future racing in America for trainer Wesley Ward.
Raced by Australian retail giant and Westbury Stud principal Gerry Harvey, Cut Me Loose was sent to America on the recommendation of his trainer Shaune Ritchie after bleeding at trackwork.
“He had four starts in New Zealand for two wins and ran third in the Wellington Guineas,” Ritchie told NZ Racing Desk.
“He’s a very talented horse, but he had a bleed in trackwork and I said to (Westbury Stud manager) Russell Warwick that I wasn’t that comfortable about getting the horse back to the races.
“We had a talk about it and suggested Gerry send him to America where he can run on Lasix to help the bleeding.
“The horse is currently in Miami and they are very happy with him. I’ve spoken on the phone with Wes a couple of times.
“He races on both coasts and he’s invited us over there so we’d love to go and see how they do things.”
Ward has become widely known as the first American trainer to win a stakes race at Royal Ascot when Strike The Tiger won the 2009 Listed Windsor Castle Stakes and a day later stablemate Jealous Again was successful in the Group Two Queen Mary Stakes.
He has become a regular at the Royal meeting, winning the 2015 Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes when Undrafted beat the Chris Waller-trained Brazen Beau and also this year’s King’s Stand Stakes with Lady Aurelia.
