Glen Thompson has become the latest member of one of Australia’s best-known racing families to train a city winner.
Thompson’s horse Cramming ($9) gave him his first Brisbane winner when he won the Sky Thoroughbred Central Handicap at Doomben on Saturday.
His brother John is based in Sydney and has had several Group One winners including top mare First Seal.
Their grandfather Vic and father Vic Thompson jnr, who was once the No.1 trainer at Crown Lodge for the Bob and Jack Ingham, had hundreds of winners during their careers.
Glen Thompson was his brother’s foreman in Brisbane before branching out on his own last month.
“Training winners is what you are in this business to do and it is a great thrill to get my first in Brisbane,” he said.
Thompson has 12 horses in work with room for 18.
