Michael Hickmott has secured top jockey Craig Williams to ride promising stayer Party Crasher in Saturday’s Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m).
Williams, a multiple Group 1-winning rider, is yet to win the Queensland Derby and will be hoping Party Crasher can change that record. The lightly raced son of Ocean Park has been progressing rapidly, winning three of his five career starts after breaking his maiden at Strathalbyn in late March.
Most recently, Party Crasher proved far too good for older rivals over 2500m at Morphettville, cruising home as the $1.35 favourite with Jake Toeroek aboard.
Williams last rode in the Queensland Derby aboard Navy King for Symon Wilde in 2023, finishing 10th behind dominant winner Warmonger. He’ll be aiming for a better result this time with Party Crasher, who shapes as a live contender for this year’s edition.
