Hugh Bowman (Winx) 1st : “I must admit, the post just couldn’t come quick enough. It just means so much to so many people. Look at the crowd here today, I’ve never witnessed anything like it. The journey this thoroughbred has taken us on is just unexplainable, it’s a childhood dream. She’ll now go down in history as one of the greatest horses to grace the Australian turf and I just can’t believe it.”
Blake Shinn (Humidor) 2nd : “It was a great run. He did a fantastic job to get so close to the champ. For a fleeting minute, I thought we going to cause a big upset but she just pulled out too many guns but it was an amazing effort from my horse to get so close. Although he ran second, it was still a great result.”
Kerrin McEvoy (Folkswood) 3rd : “He went really well. We got out out into my preferred spot and had a nice time of it. The leaders stepped it up at the half-mile and I increased but unfortunately the wonder mare was right on our hammer at the 500 (metres). My fellow battled on well and that was a personal best from him. You couldn’t ask for much more.”
Dean Yendall (Royal Symphony) 4th : “We just got into a s**tfight with (Damien Oliver) early which didn’t help my cause at all. I was trying to follow Winx so I lost my spot there and then had to come off the back of Happy Clapper probably about 700 (metres) out and then start improving. He went really well.”
Mark Zahra (Gailo Chop) 5th : “He had a nice lead, he just laboured a bit late. He didn’t walk back that good so there might be a problem.”
Damien Oliver (Happy Clapper) 6th : “He ran OK.”
Regan Bayliss (Seaburge) 7th : “He just struggled at weight-for-age against these really tough horses.”
Luke Nolen (Hardham) 8th : “We gave the winner a lovely drag into it, but he wasn’t good enough.”
