Alligator Blood’s owners are resorting to an unconventional treatment for his pastern injury, turning to Tvati oil, a traditional Cook Islands remedy.
Tvati oil, is mostly used on humans but Alligator Blood’s connection are hoping it could be beneficial to horses too.
“We’re actually trying a treatment on him that a lot of athletes around the world use, it’s called Tvati oil, you massage it into their wither every day, it’s for soft tissue and bone healing,” owner Jeff Simpson told racing.com.
Owner Jeff Simpson expressed cautious optimism, stating, “We figured it was worth a try… we’ve got nothing to lose with it.”
Despite the setback, Alligator Blood displays his characteristic spirit during recovery. Simpson remains hopeful, awaiting further scans to gauge healing progress, noting, “It’s up to him.”
“It’s just a matter of wait and see, it’s all we can do, he still looks magnificent, he’s put a bit of condition on and his coat looks good.”
The seven-time Group 1 winner’s racing future remains uncertain since finishing third in the G1 Champions Mile, but Simpson emphasized, “He still looks magnificent… it’s just a matter of wait and see.”
