A 10 per cent ownership stake in promising colt Coleman, runner-up in the Golden Slipper, was snapped up for $405,000 on Wednesday afternoon through Inglis Digital, putting his overall valuation above $4 million.

STBT Bloodstock secured the share in the son of Pierata, who recently put in an eye-catching trial performance under James McDonald over 804m at Warwick Farm. Now under the guidance of trainer Chris Waller, Coleman looks set to target Queensland’s major races.

Plans for the colt include Group 1 features like the Stradbroke Handicap and the Doomben 10,000.

Previously trained by Matt Laurie, Coleman started his career in style with wins in the Debutant Stakes and the Chairman’s Stakes but has not claimed victory since.

He placed in two Group 1s—the Golden Slipper and the Sires’ Produce—before finishing sixth in the Group 3 Blue Sapphire Stakes on November 16, where he started as a $3 favourite.

“He has had a micro-fragment removed from a fetlock after his last prep, hence the horse bypassing autumn racing and targeting the Group 1s in Queensland. The surgery was successful with a vet report attached,” the advertisement read.

A $550,000 yearling purchase, Coleman has already earned $1.32 million from 11 starts.

His younger half-sister by Flying Artie, named Haute, is an unraced two-year-old trained by Clinton McDonald.

Another notable listing in the same Inglis auction was Aardvark, winner of the Talindert Stakes. He changed hands again, moving from Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott to Western Australia’s Chris and Michael Gangemi for $95,000 after just one start.
