Former Sydney jockey Tim Clark might be plying his trade in Hong Kong but he hasn’t been far from the thoughts of Hall of Fame trainer Gai Waterhouse.
Clark has secured the Melbourne Cup mount on Older Than Time – one of two runners Waterhouse will saddle up next week.
Confirming Clark’s booking in her daily blog, Waterhouse said: “(There are) two jockeys that stand out (at the moment).
“One is Tim Clark who is riding with exceptional vigour in Hong Kong.”
Waterhouse also said Craig Williams was riding like “a jockey possessed” after winning the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate.
She will be hoping Williams’ form helps Older Than Time when he rides the Sydney Cup placegetter in Saturday’s Lexus Stakes at Flemington.
Older Than Time has 53.5kg in the Lexus and drops to 51kg in the Melbourne Cup.
Bookmakers rate Older Than Time a $101 chance for the Cup with stablemate Tullamore, to be ridden by Chris Munce, at $17.
Jim Cassidy, a two-time Melbourne Cup winning jockey, has been confirmed as the rider for Bart Cummings’ import Illo on Tuesday.
Illo stepped out for the first time under Cummings’ care when he was third to Melbourne Cup favourite Americain at Moonee Valley last Saturday.
