New South Wales trainer Clare Cunningham has been in the top job for less than 12 months after plenty of time with Peter Moody, however victories are coming thick and fast for the 5-time metropolitan winner since breaking through on the 19th of June last year with Sir Barb at Goulburn.
It seems almost every runner from the Cunningham stable is a threat at each race meet she attends, the trainer striking at almost 1 in 3 this season (2017/18). Not out of favour with punters at all, she is in the money 55% of the time with handsome average winning odds of $5.45.
Cunningham has had 61 runners to date this season, chalking up 18 victories and filling the minors 16 times to add her to prominent success. Adding to her first year accomplishments, Clare Cunningham has also found herself on the big stage with a runner in the Group 3 Widden Stakes at Rosehill, already reaching a career milestone with a runner capable of performing in Group company.
The young trainer has just ticked over career win number 20 with 2-year-old Onthetake, victorious at Newcastle on Sunday, contributing to her $455,682 in prize money already.
She has had a formidable combination with gun jockey Jason Collett, with the man always cool under pressure riding 9 winners from 34 starts for his partner. One for the punters to follow, Collett is striking at 26% for the stable this season, placing at 52.
Clare Cunningham amazingly is yet to taste defeat at the Newcastle track in 3 visits, also doing well in trips to Orange and Muswellbrook, as well as a win in the big smoke at Royal Randwick.
Impressively, she is shooting for victory number 5 in a row with 3 acceptances for Warwick Farm on Wednesday including Sir Barb in race 6 with Global Rocket and Tenorino in race 8.
