Cavalry Girl stamped herself as a class above in South Australia with a dominant all-the-way victory in Saturday’s Lightning Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.
Sent out the well-supported favourite with leading betting apps Australia after a string of consistent performances, the Tom Dabernig-trained daughter of Bivouac never gave her rivals a chance, cruising to a commanding four-and-a-half-length victory in the $120,000 Listed feature.
Fresh from a runner-up finish behind Signature Scent at Caulfield, Cavalry Girl jumped cleanly under Todd Pannell before crossing to the lead and controlling the race from the outset.
Never Ordinary settled in second, while Bardigrub tracked the leaders in third, but the moderate early tempo played perfectly into the hands of the leader.
Bardigrub attempted to issue a challenge approaching the home turn, however Pannell quickly asked Cavalry Girl to extend and the response was immediate as the filly put the race beyond doubt.
Cavalry Girl raced clear to score by four-and-a-half lengths from the Tim Fitzsimmons-trained Doubtland filly Yuuki, who charged home from near the tail of the field to grab second.
Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained Bardigrub held on for third, with the Home Affairs filly Jacaranda finishing fourth.
