The moment Hughie Bowman stepped SAVATIANO (Street Cry) she had the race won.
It was the Gr 2 Expressway Stakes over 1200m and well, she brained them.
Bowman was all smiles when he dismounted. “I feel like they just gifted me a race today with her,” he was talking about Godolphin not his fellow riders.
“There wasn’t a lot of pressure in this race and she just didn’t spend any energy in the run.
“I thought I’d take the race by the scruff of the horns at the 600m and she picked up the bridle and took off.
“I certainly think she’s up to Gr 1 level.”
Which is music to the ears of the Godolphin elite because this mare has not won at Gr 1 level yet.
She has, however won five times at gr 2 level.
“There is every likelihood now for Gr 1 opportunity.,” said her trainer James Cummings.
“Very mature now and capable of repaying the faith in keeping her racing. She will be headed to the Gr 1 Canterbury Stakes and will be very hard to beat.
“We have no doubt our horses are hard to beat when they have that sort of speed and when they left her alone I knew she would take beating.”
Chasing her home on the heavy track was Gr 1 winner KOLDING (Ocean Park-Magic Star). He raced behind the speed, peeled off as they turned, made a dash but she was simply too swift for him beating him home by 2 lengths.
EMERALDS (Sebring-Doulmera) came from the back to grab 3rd another 1.5 lengths away.
T was a 100% leader dominated race and she ran 1:11:22.
The win takes Savatiano’s prize money haul to $2.2million.
