Talented heavyweight jockey Campbell Rawiller has announced he will return to race riding after briefly stepping away from the sport earlier this year.
Rawiller, who has alternated between flat and jumps riding while also spending time training greyhounds, retired following a meeting at Kyneton on April 10. But just months later, he revealed on social media that the lure of racing had drawn him back once again.
“At the time, stepping away felt right,” Rawiller wrote. “It gave me a much-needed release from the pressure and stress of weight management and the expectations that come with race riding. Since then, I’ve taken all the pressure off and allowed myself to reset. Thankfully, my body has now settled at a far more sustainable riding weight, which has added fuel to the spark I was struggling to put out. I’m stepping into this next chapter with a fresh mindset and a renewed passion for my dream job.”
With 193 career victories already to his name, Rawiller comes from one of Australia’s most prominent racing families. He is the son of Sydney star Nash Rawiller, who partnered Private Eye to win the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes at Caulfield last weekend, and nephew of fellow Group 1-winning rider Brad Rawiller.
Rawiller’s return will add further depth to a riding roster already rich with family talent, and his renewed focus suggests he is ready to make the most of this next chapter in his career.
