For the second time in a week, Corey Brown found himself in the stewards’ room defending a feature race win but on Saturday at Rosehill the result was in his favour.

Brown lost out last Saturday when Jim Cassidy successfully protested against him after the Tea Rose Stakes which went to Longport over Norzita.

Rolling Pin went to the line a long head in front of Offenders but the pair bumped inside the last 50 metres with Kerrin McEvoy quick to fire in an objection.

Presiding steward Greg Rudolph said although contact occurred, Rolling Pin had Offenders’ measure all the way down the straight and his panel could not be satisfied the bump had a bearing on the result.

First to cheer Brown was not trainer Gwenda Markwell but Cassidy.

“You finally got one!” Cassidy shouted to Brown.

Markwell made a late decision to start Rolling Pin in the Group Two Shannon (1500m) as a lead-up to next week’s Epsom Handicap in which he will carry 52kg.

“It was a last minute decision to put him in. It didn’t look like an overly strong race,” she said.

Rolling Pin booked his place in the Group One Epsom (1600m) with his victory in the Cameron Handicap at Newcastle when he was ridden by Christian Reith.

He is a $35 chance to win the Epsom with last week’s George Main Stakes winner Shoot Out and Shannon third placegetter Fat Al sharing $5.50 favouritism.
